In this unit, we learned how training and development are integrated into an organization’s career development program. What has been your experience with career development programs? Have they been effective in reaching your career goals? If you have never experienced a career development program, discuss how you think learning and development should be integrated into an organization’s career development program.

JOSHUA:

During my time in the Army I would say that the career development program is very effective. There’s a clear path that is laid out for you and you understand what is needed at each step along the way. I think it’s important to know the expectations of what you need to accomplish in order to get to the next step in your career, and to know what the expectations at the next level of advancement will be. Learning and development should never stop in any situation. Even if an individual has recently been promoted they should constantly be groomed to excel in their new role and also to start preparing for the role after that.
