Development programs allow for employees to build on skills and in many cases to further their career with their organization. It can also help build a more positive culture within an organization. At a previous employer I was required to participate in a minimum of 40 hours a year of professional development activities, it was up to employees to choose from a number of courses that would count towards these professional development hours and ranged anywhere from instructor-led courses on Microsoft Office, the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and many more. Does your current employer, or any other organization you’re familiar with offer these types of opportunities? What types of programs are you aware of or have you participated in that focus on employee development?
