Responses

 

I learned from fellow peer’s responses in the discussion boards additional information regarding the topic we were discussing not just based on research, but from individual experiences in their professional lives. Whether they have just a couple of years’ experience or a few years’ experience, when they share that kind of information we have gained valuable knowledge.

 

Compelling Topics

 

When it comes to compelling topics I would have to say that it was in the Unit 2 DB 1 on how there are laws protecting company’s when it comes to monitoring. Policy does not override a local, state, or federal law when it comes to privacy, but there is a law that protects organizations when it comes to monitoring and/or recording employees, business associates, and clients. In this situation, Diamond Express Inc. has the right to write policies that will protect their organization since they deal with diamonds, but at the same time they cannot violate the Kimberley Process Certification which is protected under The Clean Diamond Trade Act which prohibits acquiring, trading, and selling blood diamonds which would also be considered an act of terrorism under the USA Patriot Act (HR Legal Resources, 2017), (US Legal, Inc., 2017).

 

Participation

 

Participating in the discussion boards gave me the chance to acquire new knowledge on the topic being discussed due to fellow peers sharing the information they used in their discussion boards. Even though we may all have the same questions to answer, some of us may have discovered additional information on the subject during our research. Thus, we have learned from each other.

 

Clarifications

 

Basically, there is nothing to be discussed when it comes to clarifications. Fellow peers were quick to respond to questions I may have asked concerning their discussion boards and the responses were written clearly for understanding.

 

This has been another class I was grateful to be in since Dr. Shameka Davenport was the facilitator. I always tell my senior advisor before a class starts that I expect the best instructor possible and I refuse to settle for less. I would never have accomplished this education so far unless I stood my ground because I firmly believe a student receives a quality education from a quality instructor.

Focusing back on this course and what I have learned from my peers has been a wonderful experience. Reading through others posts, I did notice a majority of us shared the same thoughts and ideas. One of the things I like most about the discussion boards is being able to reflect on each other’s posts and seeing how someone else reached their ideas. Even though we may have the same thoughts and ideas not everyone reaches the conclusion the same way. I have received some helpful feedback and I am thankful for everyone’s responses.

 

One of the most compelling parts of this course and interacting with my peers, was the assignment on empowerment. Reading everyone’s views on empowerment either being beneficial or detrimental to a business was very eye opening. We all come from different backgrounds and reading how it could be beneficial to one line of work and seeing the opposite for another, was very interesting. This reminds me of a class I took when I was working on my Bachelor’s degree, three different majors (Social Work, English, and Engineering) all read the same book. At the end of the semester all three majors got together and reflected on the book. Each major had different thoughts and perspectives of what certain situations in the book meant. Seeing how the three groups perceived things in a different way was interesting and makes you realize that what you feel may be correct there are other ways to look at things. This is how I feel when I participate in the discussion posts.

 

When working on the discussion posts, I read the instructions and feel that I understand them and start working on the assignment. After reading other discussion posts, it helped me view the discussion board tasks in a different way previously of what I understood. Having the opportunity to read and respond to other student’s discussion posts assists opening your mind and being able to view things in a different way that one is used to.

 

If anything, I have learned more from my peers and the professor. I do not feel there needs to be any clarification on the discussions. It is hard to learn everything in just a short five weeks, but I have enjoyed this course and everything that I have learned and am anxious to continue my education and learning from my peers.
